When OpenAI recently featured Tina Austin, they called her an “outcast”- one of the first educators to bring generative AI into the classroom before institutions were ready. Her former department wasn’t prepared to have any conversation on AI, but over time, what began as controversy became a case study in courage. Tina’s work went on to spark the first faculty-led AI policy and literacy initiatives across UCLA, CSU, and beyond. Now, as CEO and founder of Gainable AI and one of ASU+GSV’s Top Women in AI in 2025, Tina helps universities and organizations worldwide rethink what responsible, human-centered AI integration really looks like.
In this session, she shares the lessons behind that journey—how to lead change before permission, navigate resistance without losing integrity, and design learning environments that are truly future-ready. Through stories, reflection prompts, and audience dialogue, participants will reimagine what human-centered leadership looks like in the age of AI.
